To sign up and schedule your first class, simply give us a call at (814) 342-6927. One of our staff members will schedule a time for you to come in, at which point you and/or your child(ren) will have the options to either watch class, or participate. In the event that we are unable to take your call, please leave a message, and we will get in touch with you within 24 hours. Your first week of classes are completely risk free, and you are not required to fill out any registration forms or contracts. There are no hidden fees, and at the end of the first week, should you decide that it is not for you, you will not have any obligations to meet. If you should decide that you want to register sooner than the end of your first week, you are able to do that as well. When you have made the decision to officially register, see the receptionist at the front desk, and they will provide you with the necessary registration forms, and give you all of the relevant details and associated fees. For your first class, you will most likely feel a little bit nervous, excited, and confused. This is completely normal, and you will soon find that there is absolutely nothing to be nervous about. During this class, you will warm up with the rest of the group, and then for the remainder of the class, an instructor will personally introduce you to a lot of the things you will be doing during subsequent classes. Please know that we do not expect you to be a master during your first class - and neither should you. You will find that making mistakes is part of the learning process, and that any mistake you could possibly make, we have all made before. We do not care so much about mistakes that you make - but more that you have the proper attitude, and the will to keep trying. As long as you can do that, you will be successful in the martial arts!
What should I wear to class?
You do not need a uniform for your first couple of classes. Some loose fitting workout or gym clothes will be fine. We recommend a t-shirt and sweat pants, but if you do not have these items, substitute as necessary. All we ask is that you please keep it appropriate (no tank-tops, muscle shirts, sports bras, etc.) Also note that we do take class in our bare feet, and so special athletic shoes are not required.
Do I need to bring anything with me to class?
Only a humble attitude and willingness to learn. Some students like to bring their own water bottles or sports drinks with them, but this is not required. We do have water and soda for sale at the front desk if you should need it.
What should I do once I get there?
If you arrive early for your class, we prefer you to warm up quietly, or read through the study guides we have prepared, to assist in the general knowledge needed to get through classes. We discourage loud conversations, and prefer to give the students currently taking class the privilege of a distraction-free training environment. This is not to say that we do not encourage camaraderie and friendship between students - we simply ask that you give respect to the people currently on the floor.
What if I have asthma or another condition that requires periodic breaks?
People with asthma are encouraged to bring their inhalers with them, and set them off to the side, where you can access them if needed. If you have any other kind of medical condition, please feel free to step out of class as needed.
Can I bring a friend with me?
Absolutely! In fact, we encourage you to bring friends and family members with you! We find that having a training buddy is beneficial as it helps to reinforce learning, and helps with motivation in coming to class.
